On Tuesday, May 19, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch will honor the area’s top senior athletes in the 54th annual Post-Dispatch Scholar Athlete special section in the newspaper and online at STLhighschoolsports.com. Turhan Barnes, Jr. is Madison Senior High’s Scholar Athlete selection!
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch Scholar Athlete is nominated by the school and must be in the top 25% of his/her class. The event, which annually has been conducted during a Cardinals game at Busch Stadium, is currently awaiting a date to be scheduled because of coronavirus restrictions. Once a date has been set, we will send the event information to the school/athlete.
Turhan boasts a 3.5 grade point average, ranked 11th in a class of 57. Turhan would like to become a teacher and coach one day. Turhan was a football and basketball star at Madison. Turhan has aspirations of becoming an entrepreneur with a focus on real estate. Turhan’s proud parents are Robin Riley and Turhan Barnes, Sr. His favorite things:
Book – The Bible
Subject – Mathematics (love counting numbers and currency!)
College – to graduate from the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff
Person/Most-admired – Father (industrious, hard working/never give up/quit motto)
Turhan was a quiet, humble leader at school, on the court and in the community. He was respected by staff as great role model for underclassman. Good luck with all post-secondary goals. Turhan, we are proud of you!
